How social factors determine health in Gaza

(WHO) A new film depicts the broader determinants of health in the Gaza Strip that are barriers to the population reaching their full health potential. The ongoing occupation and conflict has severely disrupted the economy in Palestine, and affects all aspects of political and social life, including basic infrastructure, education and health services, water and food security, energy supplies, and the environment. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Gaza Strip, where 1.8 million Palestinians live, under blockade and with almost total restrictions on travel to the West Bank and elsewhere, including for medical care. The inability to fully develop according to the needs of the population has weakened public and private sectors and brought hardships to residents in Gaza, especially for the poorest. As WHO Head of Office in the West Bank and Gaza Strip highlights in the film, health is dependent on an overall political solution.
