Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) remains deeply concerned by the ongoing loss of life and injuries caused by the Israeli security forces in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) in the period since US President Donald Trump’s Jerusalem announcement on December 6.

The Israeli human rights organisation, B'Tselem, recorded the deaths of eight protestors in Gaza throughout December, none of whom posed any kind of mortal threat to Israeli soldiers.

Since MAP’s report on the 19 December, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), meanwhile reported that four Palestinians have been killed across the oPt. Among them, on 3 January 2018, Israeli forces killed 17-year-old Mos’ab al-Tamimi and wounded 3 others while moving into Deir Netham village, northwest of Ramallah. According to PCHR’s investigation, soldiers arrested al-Tamimi, who had a mental disability, and fired a live bullet into his neck. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery, but doctors’ efforts to save his life failed.

PCHR has highlighted Israeli forces’ excessive use of live ammunition “to confront the unarmed civilians … in peaceful and nonviolent protests”.

MAP continues to call for these new attacks and all potential violations of international humanitarian law to be investigated, and for those responsible held to account.
